About DMG Heavy Industries
DMG Heavy Industries Ltd (DHI) is a Tanzanian-registered marine engineering company established in early 2023 as a joint venture between Dar es Salaam Merchant Group Limited and Kookje Engineering Company Limited of South Korea.
Prior to the formal establishment of DHI, the two founding companies collaborated for over four years on shipbuilding and repair projects across Lake Victoria (Mwanza) and Unguja, Zanzibar.
DHI was created to directly address the challenges facing Tanzania’s maritime sector:
inadequate infrastructure, skills shortages, and a lack of technically capable local contractors.
Today, DHI operates three shipyard facilities, employs over 200 specialists, and has delivered projects totalling more than USD 150 million in value.

DHI was established through a strong partnership between Korea and Tanzania, built on a shared vision to develop the maritime and shipbuilding industry. Our goal is to combine international expertise with local capability to deliver quality marine engineering and vessel solutions.

Dar es Salaam Merchant Group (DMG) is a Tanzanian-registered company holding a Class I Contractors Registration Board (CRB) licence for shipbuilding and repairs. DMG has successfully delivered marine projects for key government institutions including Tanzania Ports Authority, TEMESA, Marine Services Company Limited, and the Zanzibar Ministry of Blue Economy.
The DMG Group operates several subsidiaries spanning trading and distribution, water and civil engineering, fisheries, and marine industries , making it one of Tanzania’s most diversified industrial groups.

Kookje Engineering Co., Ltd is a South Korean marine and offshore engineering company specialising in the construction of marine and offshore plants, including electrical and instrument systems, engine and machinery installation, and deck machinery. Led by CEO Dongmyung Kwak, Kookje has delivered major international projects for clients including Mitsubishi, Total, Technip, and DONG in operations spanning Norway, Sweden, and beyond.
